Karan is a Ph.D. student at the Human-Computer Interaction Institute in the School of Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon University. He uses his background in computer vision, signal processing and applied machine learning to create novel sensing and interaction technologies. This enables a broad range of applications spanning across various domains, including augmented & virtual reality, health monitoring, activity recognition and context-aware computing. He is a Siebel Scholar and the Editor-in-Chief of XRDS (formerly Crossroads), a flagship student-led magazine of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM). His research has been widely disseminated, being covered by TechCrunch, Engadget, NPR, Fast Company, Collegiate Inventors Competition and ScienceDaily among others.

Ross Teixeira

Ross Teixeira is a second-year Ph.D. candidate at Princeton’s Center for Information Technology Policy, and a Siebel Scholar. His work measures internet infrastructure to answer pressing public policy questions intersecting society and the internet, with an emphasis on privacy, access, and bias against marginalized groups.

Gaurang Bansal is doctoral student at the National University of Singapore (NUS) under Prof. Biplab Sikdar at Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. He is a recipient of the President Graduate Fellowship, 2020. He is also currently serving as Web Editor for ACM XRDS Magazine. Previously, he had completed his Master’s and Bachelor’s from BITS Pilani in 2020 & 2018, respectively. He is currently working on designing “Scalable Authentication Solutions for UAV Networks”. Having worked as mentor at IoT lab, BITS Pilani (2017-2020), with Dr. Vinay Chamola, his research interests also includes IoT, network security, blockchain, machine learning, and operating systems

Anukruti Mathur, 20, is a vivid young writer, prolific speaker, and an exuberant debater. She is pursuing her graduation in Cloud Computing and Virtualization Technology from the University Of Petroleum and Energy Studies, India. Her primary interests include cloud computing, fog computing, software engineering, and open-source standards. Head girl in her school days, she has very distinctive administrating and organizing capabilities. Winner of several writing contests, she was declared the best speaker at Youth Parliament organized by leading Hindi national daily of the country.

Nupur Shiturkar am a final year computer engineering undergraduate studying at Pimpri Chinchwad College of Engineering, Pune, India. I have worked as the President of the PCCoE ACM-W Student Chapter in my third year. I love to get involved in extracurricular activities, have been a part of student development groups since school, and have even got opportunities to lead some of them. My topics of interest include web development and cybersecurity. I am currently studying Machine Learning as part of my final year project. In my free time, I like to record songs on karaoke or learn a dance routine.

Joewie is a doctoral student at the University of Colorado Boulder mentored by Prof. Alessandro Roncone. In the Human Interaction and Robotics Group, he works primarily on problems at the intersection of robotics and reinforcement learning. He is also a student researcher in the NSF AI Institute for Student–AI Teaming, where he is developing an interactive AI partner for the classroom. Joewie is a graduate of Reed College [B.A. Mathematics], the University of London [BSc (Hons) Economics], and the Georgia Institute of Technology [M.S. Computer Science].

Mengying (Cathy) Fang is an incoming graduate student at the MIT Media Lab, Tangible Media Group. She holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and Human-Computer Interaction from Carnegie Mellon University. She has received Best Paper recognition from ACM Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems (CHI) 2020. Her research interest is in how spatial and context-aware computing experiences connect people and allow us to better explore the world.

Raiful Hasan is a doctoral student in computer science at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He is NSF GRSP (ALEPSCoR) Scholar and working in UAB Secure & Trustworthy Computing Lab (SECRETLab). His research interests lie broadly at the intersection of mobile and wearable computing, human-computer interaction, Internet of Things, and smart city, with a focus on distracted pedestrian safety and bystanders privacy. He earned a B.S. in Computer Science and Engineering from the University of Dhaka (DU) in Bangladesh.

Sainyam Galhotra is a PhD student at University of Massachusetts Amherst. His research interests include data integration, clustering and fairness. He is a recipient of the “Best Paper Award” at FSE 2017 and the “Most Reproducible Award” at SIGMOD 2018 and 2019. He is the first recipient of the “Krithi Ramamritham Scholarship” at UMass for contribution to research in databases. In his free time, Sainyam likes to hike and play squash.
